What is Save An Alien

Save an Alien is a project devoted at saving 10,000,000 cute aliens from death. The aliens are currently floating in space waiting for people from earth to adopt them.

What did we acheive till now?

Thousands of users have saved aliens and help to take care of them, many users create alien photos - that shows their love.

We've shown that people on earth care and that we can (for a change) be kind to aliens - Instead of being fearfull of them thinking they want us all dead.

Known facts about the aliens

1. They are unique - no 2 aliens are the same.

2. They have families, when you save an alien you can see his brothers sisters and children.

3. Aliens have diffrent styles and personalities.

4. Some aliens didn't make it when the meteor stroke their planet - they are now frozen in space (you can actually see them)

5. Many people have adopted aliens - abouve is a small sample of photos people have taken with their aliens.

What can you do with your alien

     Aliens are cute & fuzzy creatures after adopting an alien - the adopter have many things to do with his alien & with other people's aliens

     Aliens can be fed, dressed, relocated, downloaded to the dektop,played mini games with and much more, you can even take a photo with your alien using Save An Alien's photo creator feature.

The Alien Adopter Community

      Save An Alien has become more then just a project to save aliens, it became a community of people that care about aliens,

     a community that try to make all aliens feel at home on earth. Adopters treat their aliens with love & care and try to help other aliens as well.

     All those great things we see are reflected in the "people area" in the application, it shows how many good people feed and help save other aliens.

     It also shows in the photos people upload that shows how well the aliens are treated on earth.

Technology

The aliens run ubuntu linux on Amazon EC2 servers, we use S3 for static content.

We hack Ruby on Rails on the server side, Flex on Pure MVC on the client side.

We run Nginx as a load balancer + Memcache server + MySql DB server + Apache with mod_rails aka Passenger for RoR app servers.

Statistics & BI

Where all web statistics fail (and we use a few - Twatch, Google Analytics)

We use Sisense Prism to analyze data from our MySQL DB - a great BI / Single table OLAP software - worth every $.
